 GHD IS GOOD! GHD is cutting about 35 jobs from its offices in regional Victoria, and another 25 from the Melbourne office. Eight staff at the Shepparton branch have also lost their jobs, while five employees have been transferred to other offices. It is believed 15 jobs in Morwell, two in Wodonga and one in Mildura have also been cut. A statement issued by GHD says the global economic downturn is to blame. It says many of the company's clients are based in countries that are now in recession. The leader of the Victorian Nationals, Peter Ryan, says GHD has had a long-standing presence in regional Victoria, particularly in the water industry. He says the announcement is troubling, especially for the people who have lost their job. "The most concerning thing about this is that GHD is a global organisation, they have a very strong interest in strategic planning and development. So when you do have people of this ilk, leave and feel they have to close their office, it's not ideal, far from it," he said. |
